Middle School

Pictured: Angel Mendoza wrestling — Photo Courtesy of: Angel MendozaHello again, I am doing another blog. Today, I want to talk about how I’m going to get around in middle school and how it is different. These are the things that keep me going in life. My plans for middle school are playing on the Football team, Wrestling once again, and making a lot of new friends. I am going to ask my brother Eddie if he would get me a football paper. The reason why I would ask him to get me a form is because I would not be at Rayburn just yet. The middle school will be handing out some forms for anyone interested in football and any other fall sports. I heard that they will be handing papers out in late June. If I plan on doing football, I would have to get things done and do my work so that I can play sports. I would have to decide quickly because camp is coming up soon. I will get a Wrestling paper after that.

The biggest challenge that that I am thinking about right now is the school work that I would have to do and get used to. The other things that I would have to think about is keeping up with my school work. If they have a place to go for homework, I would try to get into it if it is not during after school so that I would have time for sports and other after school activities. If I do all of those things, I would be able to do the sports I plan to. Whenever I am thinking about things in middle school I would go to my brother Eddie for some advice.

Avery’s Holiday Art

Hello CTEBVI friends!

Merry Christmas! Over the last holiday, Thanksgiving, my mom put me in charge of decorating the table. This is a good chance to show off some of my artwork and have the rest of my family join in an art project as well.

I decided to put paper all over the table in long strips. This works as a tablecloth and also as a canvas. I put everyone’s name on where they were sitting using markers. After that I took all of the markers and did a drawing for each seat. At each sheet I wrote “what are you thankful for?”

During our meal, while everybody was eating, they grabbed markers and started drawing too. It was really fun to see what everybody was thankful for and what they were drawing. This was a really fun project to do with my family and we left the paper out for a couple more days and filled up the whole table canvas.

I drew a heart to represent my family. I also drew Batman for my dad, a heart for myself, an emoji for Grandpa Bob, and doodles for my brother. I also drew a banana for my Nana because I call her Nana banana.

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a merry Christmas!

Well hello! I am doing this blog on a guide dog named Taz. Taz is a guide dog from a guide dog school in San Rafael. Mia got Taz in June 2017. Taz guides Mia with a special kind of harness for guide dogs. Mia has a way of dealing with her dog while at college and other places. For example, when Mia gives Taz a command such as down, hop up, or stay, he will do that command. Mia also showed me what she does with him in the car during mobility lessons. For instance, if she tells him to hop up, he would get in the car and sit down where you would put your feet.

If Taz is off duty, I will get to pet him as long as it is okay with Mia. Taz and I love it when I get to pet him. I also know that Mia loves, to be guided with a dog as much as a person. If I were able to have a guide dog, I would have to think about how it would work with him or her. I have a lot of pros and cons about it as well.

November Update!

Hello CTEBVI!

I am super sorry for not doing a blog in a while. I would like to tell you about my Halloween adventures as well as some art that I have made recently.

For Halloween my VI teacher invited me and my family over to her house for a party and trick-or-treating. She was so nice to invite us over! We played a few games. One of them was that you had to put your hand into a box and feel objects and then guess what the objects were. My mom won that one. Another game was that you got a list of words that you couldn’t say. If someone else said one of the words on the list you got to take their clothes pin, and the goal was to get as many clothes pins as you could. I won that game! My VI teacher gave me a huge caramel apple as a prize. I also won best costume and I gave that caramel apple to Miss Lindy.

Speaking of best costume, I was Hermione Granger from Harry Potter. My dad has been reading Harry Potter books to me every night. We are on the third book, the Prisoner of Azkaban. Hermione he is my favorite because she is the smartest person in her class and she is super cool.

Back to Halloween, I also got to go trick-or-treating with my brother, my mom and dad, and my O&M instructor, Mr. Nick. It was super fun to do trick-or-treating with my O&M teacher.

I would like to share with you to paintings that I have done recently. The first one is called Flowers Blowing in the Night. This picture shows flowers blowing in the wind at night. I decided to draw it because it’s fall and the leaves are falling off the trees and blowing all over the place.

My next one is called Castle on the Hill. The castle has a couple of flags, a moat and a bridge. I drew a moat because all castles have moats. I was inspired to draw this because my dad‘s favorite singer is Ed Sheeran, and he sings the song “Castle on the Hill”. My dad and I always dance to Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking out Loud” song.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

Yosemite

Dear CTEBVI Friends,

Happy fall! I’m happy to bring you my next blog which shows some artwork from when I went to the other side of California last month.

At the beginning of October my family drove from our home near the ocean all the way across the entire state. We got to drive through Yosemite which was really amazing. We stayed in a cabin on a lake for four days and watched the trees turn from green to yellow. It was really beautiful.

One day my brother and I wanted to go fishing, even though we have never done that before. We got to rent a little boat with our parents and go out on a lake and go fishing. We caught four fish! My mom said they were rainbow trout, and I accidentally called them rainbow trousers. It was super fun.

While staying at the cabin my mom brought all my art supplies and I got to paint a couple pictures. One of the paintings is a picture of the sunset. In the painting there is a lake and lots of grass. I drew lots of little flowers in pink and blue. I really like the sunset because it reminds me of the sunset that I saw at June Lake which was pink and orange.

My next painting is a picture of my mother in a hot air balloon. The balloon has a large pink “A” on it, which stands for Avery. In the painting my mom is flying over a little farm. I added little details like pigs and cows. The farm has a little neighbor to look after some of the farm animals. These are the two paintings that I drew while we were in the eastern part of California.

I hope your fall has been fun too!

Football

I am here with another blog.  I have been doing a lot this year.  I’m doing football this year.  I will tell you how it feels to be in this sport.  Cross country runs with their own weight, but football players carry their own weight plus pads.  I have played in the Varsity team game against the Ravens.  I truly believe I don’t belong in J.V.  The reason why I think that is because I work very hard and make every second count.  If the coach asked me to play on Varsity, I would say yes to his offer.  I am the center for my team.  The center is the guy who hikes the ball.  The things that are good about football is that it is the most popular sport between my friends and I.  Another thing I like is that you can be in contact with each other.  The last thing I like is that you get a bright yellow jersey with a number and the name of your mascot in blue.

Sierra Outdoor School Experience

Well, I am back with another blog.  I have something good to talk about.  I’ve taken a three-day trip to a place called Sierra Outdoor School.  When I arrived, I was excited about how it would look inside all of the buildings.  The boy’s dorm had eight steel bunks, a mattress about as thick as a gymnastics mat, showers with a curtain, and a decent sized bathroom.  As I would imagine, the same went for the girl’s dorm.  I did quite a lot of things in the school.  I built shelters, dissected owl pellets, made arrowheads, and did so much more.  I loved how the teachers and staff were so kind to us in Sonora.  I also liked the old historic gold mining town of Columbia.  But before that, I went to a place called Mercer Caverns and went about 160 feet down into the Earth’s surface.  If I could go back I would!
